Why Foundations, Trade Associations and other Walled Gardens Cling to CLAs

This is a good discussion and mirrors the open-source approach used in the Simple IoT project. The issue is not “how much can I get for myself” (CLA, license assignment, etc) but rather how can we develop the technology we need. If we add too much friction to the process, we’ll probably never get to where we need to go. This philosophy is an example of why Redhat has been so successful.

With the Apache license, contributors are agreeing to give you a copyright and patent license for what they contribute. No CLA is required.
