Meetings have always been a mystery to me – what makes them good – what makes them a drag. Many have offered ideas on this. Weekly status meetings can be beneficial in keeping projects moving. But they can also be boring and needlessly long – filled with long dialogs of tiny details.
Why not try to make weekly status meetings a “demo” of what you did the last week? Come prepared for the meeting with a real-time demo, some screenshots, recorded videos, real-time perusal through source code, schematics, layout, Git history, project plan, etc. Keep things fairly high level. This will likely be more interesting, spur more creative thoughts, and energize the team. It is something tangible. This process will also improve everyone’s presentation skills.
