Should you run Arch Linux on your servers?

Notes:

  • with standard distros like Centos, Debian, etc you are building up tech debt between releases. With Arch you are paying this debt as it occurs.
  • you need reasonable, controlled processes for deploying images.
  • If you don’t have these reasonable processes, you have way bigger problems than what server OS you are running.
  • Conclusion: I love Arch!

The folks at Jupiter broadcasting ran there streaming media server on arch for over a year and they would update it during the show it was scary but I don’t remember it ever crashed their show
They had out of source kernel modules too so I think It’s not as bad perhaps these days to run arch in servers

I would suggest to go with btrfs so you can use snapshots and go back to last good working version if new update does not pan out for any reason
