Discourse is an excellent example of how web apps can function as phone apps

When setting up a new phone, I open this site, I see a bar across the top asking if I want to install the web page as an app. I click it and then I get asked if I want to allow notifications. The result is very nice:

With my old phone, I must have not had notifications enabled, or I had installed it as an app too long ago.

In the notifications section of my phone settings, there is a TMPDIR section:

This is an example of the power of the web platform and discourse makes the user experience very nice. There are times when you still need a native app, but they are becoming less and less.

Not sure how this works on iOS – does Safari give you this experience, or does Chrome help?

Notice how both topic and chat messages show up in the notifications and they are easy to differentiate.
