5-way win

An experienced businessman once told me he looks for a 5-way win. Recently this came to mind, so I looked it up, and found:

A “5-way win” in business is most commonly recognized in the context of Japanese business philosophy, specifically the principle called Goho Yoshi (五方良し) promoted by companies like Sumitomo Electric. This concept emphasizes the importance of achieving benefits for all five key stakeholders involved in a business transaction or relationship, not just shareholders. The five stakeholders typically include:

  • Customers
  • Suppliers
  • Employees
  • Shareholders
  • Society (the broader community or environment)

The idea is that true business success comes from creating value and ensuring mutual benefit for all these parties, rather than focusing solely on profit or shareholder returns. This holistic approach fosters long-term relationships, trust, and sustainable growth
