Arch Linux notes

yeah I will wait to meet him until he is one nix + hyperland in 2026

So run

 pacman -Qs librewolf-fix-bin firefox-patch-bin zen-browser-patched-bin

to be sure you do not have these installed on your arch install.

Not installed here

I do check the PKGBUILD files pretty carefully when installing from AUR – mainly check the URLs where it is getting stuff from and any other scripts it might be installing.

Neat that these packages were found relatively quickly.

Arch is a “sharp tools” distro – AUR brings a lot of power and convenience, but you need to use it carefully.

Another thing you don’t worry about with Arch Linux:

yeah spend few hours this week updating my daughter’s machine to 24H2 Win11 release. I wish she liked Linux  maybe I should encourage her with something like Ubuntu to start.

Fastly CDN Mirror

This came in on the arch maillists:

Hello everyone,

we have now setup1 an additional option for a worldwide mirror:
https://fastly.mirror.pkgbuild.com

With the caching done by the Fastly CDN, the bandwidth speeds and time
to first byte should be quite good all around the globe, especially as
more and more people start using the service.

Thanks a lot to Fastly for sponsoring us with free access to their
services!

This new mirror can be seen as an orthogonal approach to the already
existing, also DevOps administered geomirrors, which will not be
replaced by the CDN based mirror.

Please check it out and let us know if you find any problems with
it!

Kind regards,
Antiz, Pitastrudl and gromit

You can add the following to the top of /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist

Server = https://fastly.mirror.pkgbuild.com/$repo/os/$arch
